Supported Organization: Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)

Progressive Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is people helping animals. We are the kind of people who delight in the company of an animal friend, who are awed by a majestic eagle in flight. Like you, we understand that animals enrich our lives. We also know they cannot speak for themselves and need protection. That is why PAWS brings together people like you – to ensure animals are respected, safe, and have a voice.

Over the last 50 years, PAWS has delivered compassionate care to more than 450,000 wild and companion animals, and benefited countless others by teaching people how to respect animals and the environment we all share. The breadth of PAWS’ programs is highly unique, and in fact, PAWS is one of very few facilities in the country which incorporates education programs with both wildlife rehabilitation and companion animal care. Our mission: to be a champion for animals—rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, sheltering and adopting homeless cats and dogs, and educating people to make a better world for animals and people.

While at first glance it may appear PAWS’ reach is solely animals, a closer look reveals a range of programs designed to educate and support people. Through partnerships with local schools and community groups, PAWS informs young people about issues that animals face and empowers them to make a difference in their communities. Our education programs bring community leaders into the classroom, broaden career horizons for students, and meet character education mandates and Washington science standards. Each year, about 5,000 children are impacted through group and classroom visits, on-site workshops, and mentorships.

A private, non-profit organization located just north of Seattle in Lynnwood, Washington, PAWS relies on generous community support from people like you to continue this important work. Together, by speaking up for animals and educating others, we can achieve a brighter future for animals and people.
